This procedure is a routine dental cleaning for our periodontal patients that involves cleaning above and below the gum line, measuring and monitoring of periodontal pockets, and administration of any needed antibiotics for disease control.
The scaling and root planing procedure is a special deep dental cleaning that usually involves local anesthesia to numb the areas of treatment. Your hygienist will use ultrasonic tools and hand instruments to remove tartar and calculus above and below the gum line. The roots of your teeth are cleaned and smoothed to promote reattachment of your gum tissue. This gum disease treatment reduces pocket depths is most effective to treat the early stages of periodontal disease.
This is a gum disease treatment that is used when periodontal disease has progressed. Local anesthesia is used to numb the areas of treatment. Dr. Singh makes small incisions in the gum tissue to expose the roots of your teeth. Your teeth and roots are cleaned to remove tartar and calculus. Your roots are smoothed to promote reattachment of your gum tissue and the incisions are closed with stitches.
Gum recession can be uncomfortable and embarrassing. Gum grafting corrects this issue by covering areas where the gums have receded to expose the tooth root. During the procedure, donor tissue from your own mouth or another organic source is used to cover areas of gingival recession.
Bone loss in the jaw is common when a tooth has been lost. Without a tooth in place to stimulate the bone, the area around the missing tooth will shrink and recede. Bone grafting restores the lost bone and makes placing a dental implant possible.
Gum tissue is removed and reshaped to remove disease and decrease pocket depths. This treatment is usually implemented when a patient’s gum disease has not responded to other forms of treatment.
This is a procedure that enables your body to regenerate lost jaw bone. Using membranes, tissue stimulating proteins, and occasionally bone grafts Dr. Singh can stimulate your jaw bone to regenerate and reduce pocket depths. Bone regeneration can save your teeth from falling out and undo damage caused by the long-term effects of the progressive infection of periodontal disease.
After a tooth is removed, the bone in the jaw will begin to deteriorate and recede. The height and width of the socket where the tooth was previously will begin to shrink causing an indentation in the gums. Ridge augmentation restores the natural contour of the gums and can also be used to prepare an area for dental implant placement.
To prevent the recession of bone in the jaw after a tooth is extracted, Dr. Singh will often recommend a ridge preservation procedure to be performed at the same time as the extraction. Ridge preservation prevents the recession of the socket where the tooth previously was and can stabilize the bone before dental implant placement.
When a tooth is extracted or lost, the resulting bone loss can cause the sinus cavity to expand into the empty space where the bone used to be. A sinus lift or augmentation corrects this issue by moving the sinus away from the roots of the teeth and creating additional bone in the area.
Wisdom teeth, or third molars, usually appear in adults between the ages of 17 and 25 and are the final set of molars that most people get. While most will eventually have their wisdom teeth removed, not everyone needs to do so. Most dental professionals will recommend having your wisdom teeth removed if you experience any of the following scenarios…
