The Dangers of Gum Disease
A healthy mouth means a healthy body. Gum disease
is the leading cause of adult tooth loss in the United States and has been found to lead to and complicate other serious health conditions. Severe gum disease, known as periodontal disease, is an active and progressive infection in your mouth. It is a build-up of bacteria that, if left untreated, can lead to devastating tooth and bone loss.
Once you lose your jaw bone it does not grow back on its own. Periodontal disease thrives in your mouth and can spread to other parts of your body affecting and worsening systemic health conditions like, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, and pancreatic cancer.
